This important safeguarding document has now been fully updated following the introduction of the new Information Sharing Duty and replaces the previous May 2024 guidance.

The guidance supports practitioners in understanding when and how information should be shared to help safeguard children and young people, while considering data protection, confidentiality and appropriate information sharing.

This guidance is for:

• Individuals directly involved in safeguarding children, including frontline practitioners, managers and senior leaders

• Early years practitioners and childcare providers, including childminders

• Individuals and organisations working with children, parents, carers and families

• Professionals working across education, social care, health, justice and the voluntary sector

It may also be helpful for practitioners working with vulnerable adults and adults who could pose a risk to children.

The guidance explains the importance of appropriate and timely information sharing to safeguard children and young people and provides guidance to help practitioners make informed decisions about sharing information.

It should be read alongside other relevant statutory safeguarding guidance, including Working Together to Safeguard Children.
